Things to do!

The diversity of the Seychelles landscape rushes up to greet you the moment your aircraft begins its descent and promises a long list of things to do.

Seychelles is famous for having some of the best beaches in the world, pristine and uncrowded. Some are framed by age-old granite boulders. Others offer powder-soft sands, turquoise waters and sublime opportunities for swimming, snorkeling or pure relaxation.

There are great opportunities for island-hopping between the 16 islands that currently offer accommodation. These range from sumptuous 5-star resorts to rustic island lodges and cozy beach side bungalows. On your way, you will discover such gems as the legendary Vallée de Mai, home to the legendary Coco-de-Mer.

You will also find proud national monuments, beautiful Creole houses, artists’ studios, national reserves and marine parks, as well as breathtaking natural wonders above and beneath the waves. Various excursions will introduce you to the pleasures of glass-bottom boating, or enjoying a choice of water sports.

There’s also golf, horse-riding and guided nature tours where to enjoy some of the rarest species of flora and fauna on earth. Not forgetting the mellow Seychelles nightlife where you can take in a casino, some local bars and fine restaurants offering unforgettable Creole and international cuisine.

Getting around

With relatively short traveling times between the islands and/or places of interest, different modes of transportation and with a regular network of air and sea transportation operating out of the principal island, Mahé, moving around in Seychelles is easy and hassle-free.

This section features details of the 4 main forms of transportation within the islands of Seychelles, buses, car hires, domestic flights and ferries.

Busses

The primary means of public transport throughout the principal islands of Mahé and Praslin is by bus with shorter or longer versions of the vehicle being employed according to road conditions.
For purposes of placing public transport on an organised basis a parastatal organisation was constituted in 1977 to provide road passenger transport services on Mahé and Praslin. The Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (STPC) operates a network of 41 routes with 1100 trips daily running according to well-defined schedules that carry the public throughout Mahé and Praslin at a flat rate of SCR3 per trip.  An air-conditioned bus service offers commuters a greater standard of comfort at a slightly higher fare of SCR5.
To obtain more information and/or an SPTC bus time-table, please contact their Communications Unit on +248 28 02 27/228 from 0800hrs to 1600hrs from Monday to Friday.
